Quality |
|
|
|
We use only
first production run tiles and each tile is hand-selected for quality
prior to beginning our production process. Each tile is
re-inspected after the photo emulsions have been applied but prior to
the application of the protective coatings. All tiles are
inspected prior to packing and shipment. All tiles are
individually wrapped and shipped using "bubble pack" to
prevent breakage.
We cannot accept liability for damage or
breakage in shipment or installation.
Tiles
damaged in shipment or during installation can be easily replaced; we
keep a record of all shipments and individual tiles can be re-ordered at
a single tile charge. |

All tiles in our
murals
are numbered left to right, top to bottom for easy assembly and the top
edge of each tile is clearly marked; the tiles can be mapped out and
assembled using a grid. We strongly recommends the use of
silicon grouts other types of grouts may damage the
surface. If traditional sand/silica based grouts are your only
option, we recommend "masking" the tiles with tape prior to
grouting. Do not cut the tiles.

Tile
Durability
|
|
|
|
Tilepix
tiles are made using three separate, specialized coatings: The
first binds the image permanently to the tile. The second
coating applies an acrylic polymer glaze formulated by Tilepix and
consists of three separate applications. The third coating uses a specially
formulated cross-linked polymer that cures to an incredibly hard and
durable surface that protects the tile against everyday wear and
tear. The second and third coatings also contain a UV filtering
agent to protect the tile against sunlight and minimize fading.
Tilepix
tiles are resistant to almost every common environmental element except
prolonged submersion you can use them anywhere you use normal
tiles. They are resistant to alcohol, diesel fuel,
and most household chemicals. As with any tile, they should be
cleaned using a non-abrasive cleaner.

Suggestions for
Mounting Tile Murals |
|
|
|
Our
tile murals can be mounted and displayed in any number of ways
limited only by your imagination...
They can be embedded within an
existing tile installation. And because our tiles are made using
industry standard sizes, you can be assured of a proper fit.
|
|
Another popular option is
to mount the tiles on a sturdy, rigid backing (¼ plywood or particle
board), frame them,
and hang them. You will require a sturdy frame tiles are
heavy. We suggest laying out the tiles in the pattern in which
they will appear, measure the dimensions of the assembled tiles, and
cutting the backing material to the same size. Tiles can be
mounted to the backing using a "slow cure*" high grade
epoxy. Polyurethane adhesive is also an excellent choice.
|
 |
|
A third
option is to mount the tiles, frameless, in relief. This method
involves the same basic approach as the above option, but cutting the
backing material to slightly less than the overall tile dimensions (1
inch less in all dimensions).
|
 |
|
Lay out the tiles on the backing and
mark where the tile seams will be. Remove the tiles, spray the
areas where the seams will appear on the mounting surface using flat
black paint, and then re-mount the tiles using a "slow
cure*" epoxy. This method makes your tile mural stand
away from the surface upon which it is hung, giving it a dramatic,
"floating" appearance.

* Slow cure
epoxy...
We strongly
recommend slow cure epoxy for mounting your tiles: Its strength
increases dramatically as it cures and will ultimately provide a bond
far superior to any other adhesive. Slow
cure epoxy provides an extended "working time," allowing you
the opportunity to precisely position your tiles on their mounting
surface.
Work carefully do not allow epoxy to
contact the picture surface of the tile trying to wipe it off
only smears it around and using any solvent that attacks epoxy will most
likely damage your tile (and your skin).
When using epoxy,
or any other adhesive, follow the manufacturer's instructions on mixing
and using. Always allow for minimum cure times.
